Da Nang: My Khe Beach + Ba Na Hills Perfect Day Trip (2026)

Da Nang: My Khe Beach + Ba Na Hills Perfect Day Trip (2026)

VietNamReviews Da Nang

THE DILEMMA: BEACH OR MOUNTAINS?

Da Nang forces a choice that shouldn’t exist. My Khe Beach is one of Southeast Asia’s finest — 10km of white sand, warm water, zero hassle. But Ba Na Hills, with its famous Golden Bridge and French village, is a 40-minute drive inland. Most tourists pick one.

This itinerary gets you both.

MORNING: MY KHE BEACH

WHY 5:30 AM?

Three reasons:

  1. Sunrise. The sun rises directly over the water here. It’s spectacular.
  2. Local life. This is when Danang residents exercise — swimming, volleyball, tai chi. You’ll see the city as it actually lives.
  3. Temperature. By 9 AM, the sand is scorching. Early morning is the only comfortable window.

WHAT TO DO

  • Swim. The water is calm, warm (~28°C), and the lifeguards are out by 5 AM.
  • Walk. Head south toward the Marble Mountains for quieter stretches.
  • Photograph. The fishing boats come in around 6 AM. Great shots.

BREAKFAST NEAR THE BEACH

Bún Chả Cá 109 (109 Nguyễn Chí Thanh)

Bún Chả Cá 109 in Da Nang

Hours: Usually early morning to late morning (check latest)
Price: 35,000–50,000 VND ($1.40–2.00)

Swap the phở idea for a true Da Nang breakfast: bún chả cá. The broth is light but savory, fish cakes are springy, and the bowl comes with fresh herbs and chili on the side. If you want a more local-first start to this itinerary, this is the better call.

MIDDAY: BA NA HILLS

GETTING THERE

Option 1: Shuttle + Entry Package (Recommended)
Book through Klook, GetYourGuide, or your hotel. Package includes:

  • Round-trip shuttle from Da Nang hotels
  • Ba Na Hills entry ticket
  • Cable car (both ways)
  • Access to all attractions

Price: 1,100,000 – 1,300,000 VND ($44–52)
Duration: ~7 hours including transit

Option 2: Self-Drive + Walk-up Ticket

  • Grab car: ~300,000 VND each way ($12)
  • Walk-up ticket: 900,000 VND ($36) — but lines can exceed 1 hour

The shuttle package is worth it. The line-skip alone saves your sanity.

THE CABLE CAR

This is why you’re here. The Ba Na cable car held the Guinness World Record for longest single-wire cable car (5,801m). The 20-minute ascent from jungle floor to mountain peak is genuinely jaw-dropping.

Pro tip: Sit on the right side going up for the best waterfall views.

THE GOLDEN BRIDGE

The iconic structure — two giant stone hands cradling a golden walkway, 1,400m above sea level. It’s photogenic beyond belief, but also crowded beyond reason.

Peak hours: 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM (avoid)
Better windows: Before 10 AM or after 2:30 PM

Stand at the far (south) end for photos with fewer crowds. The hands look better from the north side but everyone knows that.

BEYOND THE BRIDGE

Most tourists photograph the bridge and leave. That’s a mistake. Ba Na Hills is a full theme park:

  • French Village: Surprisingly charming cobblestone streets, cafés, the Debay Wine Cellar (built in 1923, free entry)
  • Alpine Coaster: 500m track, genuinely fun, 100,000 VND ($4)
  • Fantasy Park: Indoor amusement area, climbing walls, arcade games
  • Linh Ung Pagoda: Quiet Buddhist temple with massive Buddha statue

Budget 3-4 hours minimum. Many visitors regret rushing.

FOOD ON THE MOUNTAIN

Everything is overpriced. Accept it. Restaurant options:

  • La Crique (French) — 200,000–400,000 VND mains
  • Beer Plaza — 100,000 VND burgers, 60,000 VND beers
  • Street vendors — Bánh mì, corn, snacks — 50,000 VND

Or pack snacks. Nobody checks bags.

EVENING: DRAGON BRIDGE

If you’re back in Da Nang by 6 PM on a weekend, head to Dragon Bridge (Cầu Rồng). At 9:00 PM every Saturday and Sunday, the dragon breathes fire and water.

Yes, really. The bridge is lit up, crowds gather on both riverbanks, and for 15 minutes, a 666-meter dragon sculpture spits flames into the Han River. It’s delightfully absurd.

Get there by 8:30 PM to claim a spot near the dragon’s head (east side).

If you are planning a summer trip, do not confuse the weekend Dragon Bridge show with the city’s much bigger fireworks season. For official DIFF dates, ticket strategy, and Han River viewing zones, use this guide:
