Nha Trang Beach & Seafood: Where to Swim, What to Eat (2026)

VietNamReviews Nha Trang

NHA TRANG: THE TRUTH

Nha Trang Beach

Let’s be real: Nha Trang’s reputation is complicated. The main beach is stunning — 6km of sand, clear water, mountain backdrop. But the beachfront is also lined with Russian signage, package tour groups, and aggressive vendors.

This guide cuts through the noise. Where to go, what to skip, and how to experience the Nha Trang that locals actually love.

THE BEACHES (RANKED)

1. Bãi Dài (Doc Let) — Best Beach Overall

Location: 50km north of Nha Trang city
Why go: Empty white sand, warm shallow water, almost no development
Facilities: Basic beach shacks, sunbeds (50,000 VND), fresh seafood

This is the beach that photos promise. 10km of nearly empty sand, coconut palms, and water so clear you can see your feet. It takes an hour to reach by motorbike or Grab, but that’s exactly why it stays pristine.

Getting there: Motorbike rental (150,000 VND/day) or Grab car (~300,000 VND each way)

2. Nha Trang Beach (Main Beach) — Most Convenient

Location: Central Nha Trang, along Tran Phu street
Why go: Walking distance from everything, decent swimming, sunrise views
Facilities: Hotels, restaurants, water sports, loungers

The main beach is fine. Not spectacular, not terrible. The water is clean (tested regularly), the sand is maintained, and the swimming area is roped off. It’s just… touristy.

Best section: North end near Louisiane Brewhouse — cleaner sand, fewer vendors.

3. Hòn Chồng — Best for Photos

Location: 3km north of city center
Why go: Dramatic rock formations, local fishing village vibe
Facilities: None (bring water/snacks)

Not a swimming beach — the rocks make that tricky — but the formations are photogenic and the area feels more authentic than the main strip. Entry is 22,000 VND ($0.90).

SEAFOOD: WHERE LOCALS ACTUALLY EAT

Quán 92 Cầu Đá (92 Cầu Đá, Vĩnh Nguyên)

Hours: 4:00 PM – 10:00 PM
Price: 200,000–500,000 VND/person ($8–20)
Specialty: Ốc hương (spotted babylon snails), mực nướng (grilled squid)

This is where Nha Trang residents bring visiting family. The seafood is pulled from tanks minutes before cooking. Point at what you want, agree on weight and price, choose your preparation (steamed, grilled, garlic butter, etc.).

Warning: Get prices BEFORE cooking. Written confirmation prevents “misunderstandings.”

Thềm Xưa Seafood (56 Trần Phú)

Hours: 10:00 AM – 10:00 PM
Price: 150,000–400,000 VND/person ($6–16)
Specialty: Cháo hải sản (seafood porridge), tôm sú nướng muối ớt (grilled tiger prawns)

More upmarket but still reasonable. Air-conditioned, English menu, no haggling required. The cháo hải sản is a bowl of rice porridge loaded with shrimp, crab, and squid — comfort food perfected.

Ô Bún Chả Cá Nha Trang (27 Yersin)

Hours: 6:00 AM – 9:00 PM
Price: 40,000 VND ($1.60)
Specialty: Bún chả cá (fish cake noodle soup)

Nha Trang’s signature dish. Rice noodles in a light, sweet-sour broth with fried fish cakes. Every local has their favorite bún chả cá shop — this one consistently wins.

ISLAND HOPPING: WORTH IT OR TOURIST TRAP?

THE “FOUR ISLAND TOUR” (AVOID)

The infamous four-island tour — Hon Mun, Hon Mot, Hon Tam, Hon Mieu — costs 250,000 VND ($10) including lunch, snorkeling, and a floating bar with unlimited “wine” (it’s grape juice with vodka).

It’s exactly what it sounds like: rushed, crowded, alcoholic chaos. Fun if you’re 22 and here to party. Otherwise, skip.

BETTER ALTERNATIVE: PRIVATE SPEEDBOAT TO HON MUN

Hon Mun Marine Protected Area has the best coral and fish diversity near Nha Trang. Book a private speedboat through your hotel (1,500,000–2,000,000 VND for 4-6 people, ~$60–80) and go early morning before the tour boats arrive.

What you need:

  • Snorkeling gear (rent on boat: 50,000 VND)
  • Reef-safe sunscreen
  • Waterproof camera

VINPEARL ISLAND (HÒN TRE)

The theme park island. Accessible by cable car (300,000 VND round trip, $12) or speedboat. It’s a massive resort complex with water parks, aquarium, rides, and a golf course.

Worth it? If you have kids or want a full day of activities without planning, yes. If you’re looking for authentic Vietnam, definitely not.

SCAMS TO AVOID

BEACH VENDORS

“Free” massage that costs 500,000 VND when you try to leave. Fruit cups that are 10,000 VND for locals and “100,000 VND for you.” Sunglasses that break immediately.

Solution: Polite but firm “không, cảm ơn” (no, thank you) and don’t engage further.

SEAFOOD RESTAURANT MARKUP

Some restaurants quote one price verbally and charge triple on the bill. Always:

  1. Confirm price per kg before ordering
  2. Watch the scale — some are rigged
  3. Get it written down

TAXI METERS

Some taxis have “turbo meters” that run fast. Use Grab exclusively, or photograph the meter at start.

DAY TRIP: PONAGAR CHAM TOWERS

Location: 2km north of city center
Hours: 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Entry: 30,000 VND ($1.20)

These Hindu towers date to the 7th–12th centuries — built by the Cham civilization that once ruled central Vietnam. They’re still active worship sites. The architecture is striking, the hilltop views excellent, and the tourist crowds light.

Budget 1-2 hours. Best visited early morning for soft light.
